Carbon Particulate and Fuel Filter Plugging | ![]() |
Companies that thrive during hard economic times are those that implement innovative cost-saving strategies. Instead of replacing expensive equipment, they improve existing maintenance practices or implement new maintenance programs so they can continue to rely on the equipment currently in use. Successful companies understand that a well managed oil analysis program results in immediate as well as long-term cost savings. The time has never been more critical for you to keep your equipment running, streamline your maintenance practices, get every drop of value out of your engine oils, and shrink your overall maintenance. Carbon Particulate and Fuel Filter Plugging In the past few years, we have experienced a rise in inquiries regarding problems with prematurely plugged fuel filters. Inquiries have originated from both users of conventional middle distillate fuel and from those using biodiesel blends. Users in the biodiesel blends group indicated that some of the systems had used biodiesel for several years while others just recently made the transition to biodiesel. Each of the systems that was analyzed was unique in some way; however, the majority of these fuel filters were heavily contaminated with a black substance. Analysis of this black substance revealed that the predominant contamination species noted was carbon particulate. We hope this brief synopsis of some of the most common contributors of carbon particulate in diesel fuel systems will be helpful. |
ALS Staveley Services Fluids Analysis recognizes the challenges to our customers in keeping up with current postage rates. Recent changes in the United States Postal Services (USPS) shape-based pricing will affect the amount of postage necessary to mail your samples to our laboratories. The rates for Parcel Postage are now required when metering or stamping your individual sample mailing containers to ensure sufficient postage for mailing purposes. Currently, the typical postage to mail a single sample is $2.02. If insufficient postage is provided, there is a chance the Post Office will return samples to you. More . . . . |
